Walking, Cycling & Guided Experiences

The best way to understand a city is usually on foot. A good guide shows you the square where the city began, the lane that locals use to avoid the crowds, the café where the pastries come out warm at ten, and the stories behind buildings you would otherwise walk past. Our guided walks and visits cover many of Europe’s great cities, from Edinburgh and Bath to Prague, Rome and Barcelona.

What we offer

Guided walking tours

Walks of around two to four hours through historic centres with a local guide, privately or in a small group. Popular routes include the Old Town and Royal Mile in Edinburgh, Montmartre and the Marais in Paris, the Gothic Quarter in Barcelona, Old Town Prague and the Jewish Quarter, and the historic centre of Rome from the Pantheon to Piazza Navona.

Guided visits

Some places are much richer with a guide: the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, the Colosseum and Roman Forum, the Alhambra in Granada, the Uffizi in Florence and the palaces of Vienna. Where a tour includes skip-the-line or timed entry, it is stated in the inclusions.

Seasonal walks

In winter our Christmas market walks take you through the festive markets of cities such as Vienna, Nuremberg, Strasbourg, Prague, Edinburgh and York, with time to try the local specialities.

Cycling

Cycling tours are coming soon: vineyard trails in France, seaside paths in Spain and quiet countryside routes in Belgium and the Netherlands, with bike rental, route maps and back-up vehicles. Register your interest on the Coming soon page and we will tell you when they launch.

2. Send the enquiry with your date, preferred start time and the number of people.
3. We confirm availability, the meeting point and the guide’s details.

Who it is for

First-time visitors who want to get their bearings, returning travellers looking for a new angle, families with children (we can suggest shorter routes and more stops), and groups who want a guide of their own. Private walks can be shaped around a theme, such as architecture, food, literature or a particular period of history.

• A private three-hour walk of Rome’s historic centre for a family with teenagers.
• A morning guided visit to the Vatican Museums followed by lunch in Trastevere.
• A food walk in Lisbon’s Alfama for a group of eight friends.

Good to know

Comfortable shoes matter more than anything else. Old towns often have cobbles, steps and hills, and many walking tours are not suitable for wheelchairs. Tell us about any mobility needs when you enquire and we will suggest the most suitable route or a private guide with a vehicle.
